Advancing Maritime Sustainability: GreenMED Showcases MSSO at EU Innovation Event in Istanbul

GreenMED was proud to represent its work and vision at the high-level event “Maritime Decarbonisation in Action: EU-Funded Innovation & Collaboration,” held in Istanbul on July 3rd, under the auspices of the BlueBARGE project. This gathering brought together leading experts, policymakers, and innovators from across Europe to showcase the tangible progress being made in maritime sustainability through EU-funded initiatives.

During the event, GreenMED’s Manolis Annetis introduced the Mediterranean Sustainable Shipping Observatory (MSSO), a flagship initiative designed to serve as a regional hub for maritime decarbonisation in the Mediterranean. MSSO aims to provide a trusted platform for on-stop point for data, data insights, and knowledge exchange, supporting evidence-based investments, policy making and strategic planning. By focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities in the Eastern Mediterranean, the MSSO will play a crucial role in guiding the clean energy transition for the maritime sector in this region.

The event highlighted the importance of collaboration, innovation, and cross-border dialogue in accelerating the shift towards low-emission shipping. GreenMED’s active participation reflects its commitment to fostering regional cooperation, strengthening infrastructure planning, and enabling practical solutions that align with the EU’s broader climate and energy goals. As part of a growing network of forward-looking projects, GreenMED continues to contribute to a greener, more resilient maritime future for the Mediterranean and beyond.
