On 15 July 2025, the city of Alexandria, Egypt hosted the 3rd GreenMED Workshop, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing effort to decarbonise the Mediterranean maritime sector.
The event gathered key regional stakeholders committed to driving sustainable transformation in maritime transport. A major focus was the continued development of the Mediterranean Sustainable Shipping Observatory (MSSO)—a strategic initiative positioned to serve as a regional hub for maritime decarbonisation, with particular emphasis on the Eastern Mediterranean.
The workshop also emphasized the importance of establishing robust alternative fuel supply chains, with Egypt highlighted as a key player in enabling the region’s transition to greener maritime operations.
Through the MSSO, the region aims to foster collaboration, enhance data sharing, and align policies to accelerate the shift toward low- and zero-emission shipping. This initiative represents a crucial step toward building a sustainable and resilient maritime ecosystem across the Mediterranean.
Together, stakeholders are charting a course toward a cleaner, greener maritime future.
